Cleanse and Detox
Over the years I’ve noticed that many of my fibromyalgia patients suffer from symptoms that look strikingly similar to toxic overload. Curious about this overlap, I made a comprehensive list of fibromyalgia symptoms, and then looked at the potential toxic causes of each symptom. Out of 136 symptoms, 127 had a possible toxic cause. That’s a staggering 93%.
Then I looked at which kind of toxins caused those 127 symptoms. The main culprits by far were mould and mycotoxins, followed by chemicals and heavy metals
When I broke the list down by organ system, I found that toxins mostly attacked the nervous, musculoskeletal, and digestive systems.
To summarize: fibromyalgia is largely an attack on the nervous system by mold and mycotoxins, and to a lesser extent by chemicals and heavy metals.
What Are Mycotoxins?
Mycotoxins are toxic chemicals produced by certain types of mold and fungi. They aren’t the mold itself, but poisonous byproducts mold releases into its environment.
These invisible toxins contaminate both the air you breathe and the food you eat. They commonly come from grains (wheat, corn, rice), peanuts, coffee, and dried fruits. Once inside the body, they are stored in fat, nerves, and organs, where they can cause long-term irritation.
In my early days as a homeopath I’d always began a case with a cleanse. I had some success, but it was always a battle, and the symptoms would usually return after a few months.
This got me thinking that exposure to household chemicals and toxins could be an underlying cause of these returning symptoms.
The average home contains between 500 and 1,000 toxins, most of them you are unable to see, taste or smell. So any kind of body cleanse is worthless if you don’t first detox your home. Otherwise, it’s just an endless cycle of removing toxins and then welcoming them right back into your body.
You might have heard of Marie Kondo. She’s that petite Japanese lady who loves decluttering people’s houses. Well, it turns out that her method of decluttering is ideal for fibromyalgia sufferers because it's centered on bringing joy into your life. And if there’s one thing that fibees need, it’s more joy. I have three books on homemade cleaning and another three on body care products. I used to enthusiastically share selected recipes with my clients but to my disappointment, few of them actually made or used any of the products I had suggested.
I know that these products are affordable, easy to make, and can make a huge difference in health. But I guess not everyone loves mixing and making things as much as I do.
So I simplified and simplified until I understood the secret: homemade need to be as quick and convenient as store-bought. Read more.
Gemmotherapy remedies are a type of homeopathic remedy specifically used for drainage and detox. The advantage of using gemmotherapy is that there are 51 remedies, each one with a specific action and an affinity toward a specific organ. This allows you to target particular organs and problems.
Marie Kondo made me wonder, if she could turn a tedious chore like tidying into something that sparks joy, then why not find a way of making cleansing your body an enjoyable activity too? Read more.

For years I’ve worked with people whose daily lives were interrupted by fatigue, pain, and uncertainty. What I’ve learned is that healing begins when you feel truly heard. That’s why I combine homeopathy with lifestyle and mindfulness support, to treat the whole person. I hold a DMH from the Hahnemann College of Heilkunst (IHA), a BA in Psychology, and I’m a proud member of the International Heilkunst Association (IHA).
