Rediscovering innocence:
a Pulsatilla
guided meditation
A homeopathic constitutional remedy is a remedy that closely matches a person’s temperament, personality, and physiology. On this page, we’ll explore a delicate little flower known as Pulsatilla. Because of its flexible stem, Pulsatilla is always swaying in the wind, and is thus commonly known as the "wind flower."
The key to Pulsatilla is love. Pulsatilla personality types are extremely sweet, affectionate and nurturing people, but lack decisiveness. They are highly impressionable, and easily influenced. They are warm, both in personality and body temperature.

The Pulsatilla constitutional type: sweetness and love
Pulsatilla is known as the weathercock of remedies because its key features are changeability and the need or desire to be outdoors. The changeability is as unpredictable as the wind itself. The circulation is unstable, with a complexion that, like Phosphorus', flushes up or blushes easily, and the energy is variable, so that in a few minutes the individual can alter from bright and lively to tired and droopy. Also, like gusts of wind, the pains come on suddenly, then either let up abruptly on first motion or subside gradually.

Pulsatilla is predominantly a female remedy. It is classically thought to suit women of a mild, shy and good-natured disposition. “Pulsatilla is the most feminine of types because she lives almost entirely through her emotions, and does not suppress them. She has an intellect, but it is used exclusively in the service of her emotional needs and desires. This is why her ideas can appear so changeable. Emotions are very changeable things, especially when they are given free rein and not suppressed, and since Pulsatilla’s thoughts are generally concerned with emotional satisfaction, they tend to be flighty and unpredictable.” Philip Bailey in Homeopathic Psychology
Pulsatilla is very sensitive. On the one hand they tend to bottle things up and hold onto emotions. They will hide their indignation about some slight they may have received. They hold onto negative emotions, hold grudges, feel peeved and can become quite jealous, quite sorrowful, depressed and very anxious.
On the other hand they are particularly weepy. They are moved to tears when listening to music, watching a romantic film or even seeing distressing news on the television. They can be hopeless romantics and will probably be moved to weep when shown kindness or given a present. They can also hold firmly to their views, in that they can be deeply religious, or dogmatic about things that they hold dear.
Sympathy always helps them. A cuddle or a hug may make them weep, but it will usually help. It is that touch, that comfort that is important.
“Pulsatilla will do anything to avoid moving away from his mother.” Didier Grandgeorge - Homeopathic Remedies for the Stages of Life
Philip Bailey observed that young children of both sexes are often Pulsatilla constitutionally, but as they grow up, most of them change into other constitutional types, leaving surprisingly few adult Pulsatillas.

Another prominent Pulsatilla characteristic is dependence. Just as the flower grows in clusters, so must the human Pulsatilla have people around her.
“Between the ages of two and five children are functioning primarily from their emotions. (Before this their focus is principally physical, and after this the intellect becomes increasingly dominant.) It is precisely this age-group of children which contains a large proportion of Pulsatillas. Once the intellect begins to take over and ‘edit’ the child’s emotional life, the Pulsatilla state has gone. In this guided meditation we are going to re-enter that emotional age from two to five and experience its pure innocence and love.

Calcarea 10-minute guided meditation
How to do this meditation
Meditation generally requires a quiet, private space and deep concentration. You can do this meditation on the train, at a restaurant, or anywhere. All you need is your phone and about 10 minutes of uninterrupted time.
To start, take one or two deep breaths, and when you are ready, look at this page on your device, read a paragraph or two, look at the accompanying pictures, and imagine yourself in the situation. You can do this with your eyes open or closed. When you are done, move on to the next paragraph and repeat the process until you reach the end of the page.

Pulsatilla guided meditation
Find a quiet and comfortable spot to sit or lie down. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Start counting down from 20 to 1. With each count, feel yourself becoming more relaxed and peaceful.
As you count down, in your imagination look at your hands and see them becoming younger and younger. All those spots and wrinkles are fading away. Widen your gaze, and see a large mirror in front of you. You are 12 years old again. Take a moment to remember the innocence and purity you felt at this age.
Walk through the mirror and merge with you younger self. On the other side of the mirror is a meadow of beautiful Pulsatilla flowers. The gentle wind is blowing, and you love the feeling of the wind in your hair. The Pulsatilla flowers are swaying gently in the breeze.

In the distance you hear to a joyful commotion. Woof, woof, bow-wow, grrr, yelp. A litter of playful puppies, their fluffy fur glistening in the soft sunlight, are playing. As a shy Pulsatilla type you approach them cautiously, as you always do when encountering strangers.

When the puppies see you they come bounding over, overjoyed to find a new friend. You caution evaporated, and with a heart full of love, you extend your hand, and one of the puppies playfully nuzzles your palm. You feel the warmth of their tiny bodies, and as you kneel down, they surround you, their tails wagging energetically. The sensation of their soft fur under your fingers is pure delight.
The puppies exude affection and innocence as they scamper around, their laughter-like barking resonating in the air. You become a part of their playful world, and you join them in their joy, running and laughing as you frolic in the meadow.

Notice a picnic basket nearby, filled a variety of dog treats. Pick up the basket and feed the puppies. A sense of nurturing and care fills your heart. Oh, and there’s a treat at the bottom of the basket just for you as well. It's your favorite. Enjoy it!
As you leave the puppies, you notice that you have become even smaller, and now the Pulsatilla flowers tower over you. You are tiny. Perhaps 5 or 6 inches in height. Giant butterflies flitter overhead.

With a sense of wonder, you decide to explore further and climb up onto one of the Pulsatilla flowers, which now feels as large as a comfortable sofa. You sit down on this living perch and take in the view, feeling completely at ease in this enchanting world.
As you sit on the Pulsatilla flower, you're enveloped in its soft, sweet fragrance, and the petals cradle you like a warm, loving embrace. The world from this vantage point seems even more magical, and you can't help but smile as you soak in the innocence and joy that Pulsatilla represents.

Take your time, my dear friend, sitting on this petal sofa, savoring the sensations, and cherishing the moments of pure bliss. Allow yourself to be fully immersed in the serenity of this miniature world.

And when you're ready to return to your everyday reality, open your eyes with a heart full of love, innocence, and a renewed sense of joy, knowing that you can revisit this enchanting Pulsatilla state whenever you need to reconnect with its nurturing and affectionate qualities.
